TODAY'S STORIES:
The Last Bench Standing!

MAY 15, 2009

In the last 5 months the city has continued to cut the guardrail to the cliffs edge to allow more foot traffic on the cliff edge side of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard creating a makeshift trail. They have also lowered all of the "DANGER" signs to one foot off the ground and created foot traffic crossings in the parking lots that are very dangerous. The Cliffs Edge at Sunset Cliffs is very dangerous, there have been 6 people who have fallen off the cliff this year with 3 falling to their death, 2 partially crippled for life. and one very lucky girl with only a broken leg. We need a Storm Drain on the cliffs before we lose the boulevard, and much better signage to keep people back from the cliffs edge and not inviting more people to the cliffs edge with a make shift trail and lowered danger signs. Creating a trail along a cliff edge is a liability to the city, our benches are not. It is "Pay to Play" Politicians that have got their hands in our park. Join Save Sunset Cliffs and help keep the City from destroying our last piece of native parkland, and push to get a state of the art storm drain system to save our park and boulevard.

Save Sunset Clifffs Master Plan:
Sunset Cliffs park is eroding at an unbelievable rate. At this point, the erosion in Sunset Cliffs Park is at an emergency status.

In the next couple of years the erosion at Sunset Cliffs will reach crisis levels, and very similar to the coastlines in other Southern California coastal locations. Many Southern California coastal locations are experiencing catastrophic home and coastal useable land loss. At this point Sunset Cliffs park is at emergency land loss status. Sunset Cliffs Boulevard is also in serious jeopardy of being lost if the current rate of erosion isn't addressed immediately. If the erosion isn't addressed immediately there will not only be serious crisis conditions with not just the coastal parkland and boulevard loss but also with crisis status home and life loss. The Current need for a new "Comprehensive Storm Drain System"could not be undere stated.
The Save Sunset Cliffs Master Plan for Sunset Cliffs Park is as fallows:
1. Stop the erosion of Sunset Cliffs Park.
2. The preservation and repair of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
3. The preservation of the current use, the history, and the surf culture of the park.
To accomplish this a new "Comprehensive Storm Drain System" is the top priority of "Save Sunset Cliffs Master Plan". This new "Comprehensive Storm Drain System" will dramatically eliminate the erosion of the cliff by allowing the cliffs in Sunset Cliffs Park, to dry out and stop the "Top-Down Block Erosion" that is occurring at Sunset Cliffs Park. With the saturation of the cliff stopped by the "Comprehensive Storm Drain System", this will allow for the repair of the Boulevard where it is being undermined by the saturation of the Cliff thru runoff and save the boulevard for future generations.
